There are 12 strategies you should employ in 2023 to strengthen your relationship with social media, according to Take Administration (in its December 28 edition).
Social media has become an indispensable component of life and can both bring benefits and present risks. On one side, it enables us to stay in contact with friends and family, share our ideas and experiences, stay abreast of new information trends – but when not used appropriately can become addictive and potentially even damaging. If your resolution for 2023 includes improving your relationship with social media here are 12 strategies you should try:

1 Establish reasonable limitations in your usage.

One effective strategy to strengthen your relationship with social media is simply using it less frequently. Set limits for how long you spend scrolling your feeds or checking notifications and try your hardest not to exceed them. Consider setting specific times of the day during meal or bedtime where social media won’t be permitted at all – perhaps during meal preparation time or right before sleeptime!

2 Keep an eye on what you’re committing.

Social media is an open platform, meaning anything you share could potentially reach those following you. Before clicking “Share,” consider how what you are posting will likely be perceived by others; try not to post content that offends or upsets, rather focus on spreading positive, upbeat messages instead.

3 Take breaks from social media.

After spending too long on social media, it can become easy to feel exhausted or burned out. If this describes you, take a break! Get away from your phone/laptop/tablet for awhile and do something different; you might just be amazed how refreshing disconnecting can be!

4 Use social media as a channel of connection rather than simply for entertainment purposes.

Social media provides an efficient means of staying in contact with friends and family; however it’s easy to become immersed in scrolling content rather than actually engaging. Aim to work alongside others on social media by commenting on posts by others or sending direct messages – not simply “liking” or sharing what someone posts – research has found this approach most healthy when used quickly rather than passively.

5 When considering who you want to adapt with, be selective.

Your social media feed reflects who and organizations you value; if there’s content that does not interest or bothers you regularly, consider unfollowing or muzzling these accounts. On the flipside, if there are not enough posts from accounts which align with your interests and values – consider following more accounts that align.

6 It is best not to compare yourself with others.

Comparison is all too tempting on social media; especially when we see other posts about life at its rosiest. Remember, though, that what people post is often highly edited and edited compared to reality; don’t compare yourself with others but focus instead on your life and achievements!

7 Think About Algorithms.

Social media algorithms are designed to show you content you may like, which might exclude differing viewpoints and sources of knowledge. Keep this in mind while browsing social media content, and actively try and discover more diverse viewpoints and information sources.

8 Leverage social media to learn and develop.

Social media can provide an endless source of knowledge and motivation when used appropriately. To maximize its utility for you personally and professionally, connect with accounts that offer useful or entertaining posts while using it as an instrument of learning and growth.

9 Secure your privacy.

Be mindful when using social media. Be selective with what personal details you share online and consider using privacy settings on each of your accounts to limit who can see your material.

10 Consider joining positive communities.

Your social media experience may depend heavily on the communities that you belong to. Find accounts that inspire, educate and bring pleasure into your feed.

11 Remember not to overshare information.

Although being yourself on social media is essential, be wary when sharing any potentially sensitive or offensive material. Before posting anything publically consider whether a large audience could potentially see what you post and whether there could be adverse repercussions from doing so in the long-run.

12 Leverage the power of social media for good.

Instead of just using social media as a distraction or mindless scroll through feeds, try using it for good! Share positive messages, collaborate on content material that promotes social justice or raises awareness for causes you believe should receive greater exposure.
